You open Twitter at breakfast: “Bitcoin surges.” You open your phone widget: still red. That mismatch is normal — and it is usually not a conspiracy.
1. Headlines compress time
A title like “Bitcoin jumps 5%” usually means “from a recent low,” not “since you last checked.” If your widget compares against yesterday’s open, the day can still look red while a 2-hour bounce looks green in the news.
2. Apps do not all show the same price
Read-only trackers pull from different data sources. One screen may show a global index; another shows a single exchange. Small gaps are common. Huge gaps plus a “connect wallet to unlock the real price” prompt are a red flag.
3. What to do on iPhone (observe only)
- Pick 3–5 symbols, not 40. Fewer names = clearer reading.
- Use a watchlist or widget that does not require deposits.
- Set alerts for large moves, then mute noisy push spam.
- When a headline shocks you, ask: policy, product, or just price?
